Design Spotlight: Custom Lighting That Brings the Jalisco Room to Life

When designing the mezzanine level at Chula’s, lighting was never meant to be an afterthought, it was always intended to be a statement. In the Jalisco Room, the lighting does more than illuminate the space; it sets the mood, tells a story, and creates a sense of wonder the moment you look up.

The fixtures featured here are not off-the-shelf selections. They are custom-made by specialized lighting vendors, designed specifically for our space and scaled intentionally for the mezzanine level.

A Celestial Statement Above the Mezzanine

Suspended overhead, a collection of star-shaped light fixtures crafted from old glass forms a breathtaking focal point within the Jalisco Room. Each star glows softly, casting warm, ambient light that reflects off the surrounding materials and creates an intimate, almost magical atmosphere.

These fixtures draw inspiration from traditional Mexican star lanterns, blending heritage with craftsmanship in a way that feels both timeless and artistic. Grouped together, they form a custom chandelier installation that feels dynamic and sculptural — a true centerpiece designed exclusively for Chula’s.

Thoughtful Lighting at Every Level

Complementing the custom star fixtures is ambient track lighting tucked seamlessly into exposed ceiling beams. This layered approach ensures the space is warmly lit without overpowering the handcrafted stars, allowing them to shine as the focal feature.

Additional spider-style fixtures introduce depth and contrast, adding a slightly industrial edge that balances the warmth of the glass and wood throughout the mezzanine. The result is a lighting plan that feels intentional, cohesive, and immersive from every angle.

While guests will be able to admire this stunning mezzanine lighting once Chula’s opens, primarily used as dining space once first open, the Jalisco Room will also be available for private event rentals beginning in early 2027.
