Design Update: A Closer Look at Chula’s Main Dining Experience

As construction continues to move forward, we’re excited to start sharing more detailed glimpses into what Chula’s will feel like when you walk through the doors. Every material, texture, and finish in our main, lower-level dining area has been thoughtfully selected to reflect warmth, craftsmanship, and the rich cultural roots behind our concept.

These are not inspiration photos, these are the actual products and finishes that will soon bring Chula’s to life!

A Staircase That Sets the Tone

The staircase connecting our main level to the mezzanine is designed to be both functional and visually striking. Warm terracotta tiled stair risers paired with 2x6 stair tile introduce earthy tones that feel timeless and grounded, echoing traditional Latin architecture.

Surrounding the stairs, you’ll find Paloma Gray thin brick, selected to match our exterior brick and create a seamless transition between inside and out. This continuity helps anchor the space and adds character that feels established, not trendy.

To soften the brick and add an organic touch, subtle moss detailing on select brick walls brings in natural texture and life. Nearby, a custom partition pattern introduces movement and depth, adding a layer of artistry without overwhelming the space. Together, these elements create a staircase moment that feels inviting, warm, and unmistakably Chula’s.

Bar Seating Designed for Comfort & Connection

Comfort is key when it comes to gathering, lingering, and enjoying great food and drinks, and our bar seating reflects that philosophy.

The main bar will feature custom barstools with faux leather seats and backs, finished in a rich, warm brown tone that complements the surrounding wood and brick. The upholstery was chosen not only for its durability, but for how it ages beautifully over time.

Each stool sits atop a black coffee–finished wood frame with a black foot ring, grounding the design and tying seamlessly into the darker accents throughout the dining room. These barstools strike the perfect balance between refined and relaxed, equally suited for a quick margarita or a long evening with friends.

A Welcoming Entry & Waiting Area

Your experience at Chula’s starts the moment you arrive, and our entry and waiting area is designed to feel like an extension of the dining room, warm, inviting, and rooted in craftsmanship.

Guests will be welcomed by a wood host stand with inset panels, offering a handcrafted look that feels personal and intentional. Nearby, a solid wood communal table with a sculptural base anchors the space, encouraging connection even before you’re seated.

Completing the space are authentic wood dining chairs handcrafted in Mexico, each one reflecting traditional craftsmanship and cultural heritage. Finished with upholstered seats for comfort, these chairs bring an undeniable sense of authenticity and meaning to the room, a direct connection to the Mexican roots that inspire Chula’s at its core.

Bringing Chula’s vision to life is our incredible design partner, Kari Campbell Interiors, whose team has worked closely with us to ensure every detail feels intentional, welcoming, and rooted in authenticity.

From the selection of warm terracotta tile and thin brick to the thoughtful layering of wood tones, textures, and handcrafted furnishings, Kari and her team have helped translate our story into a physical space, one that honors Mexican heritage while still feeling comfortable, elevated, and timeless.

Their approach balances beauty with durability, ensuring the materials chosen not only look stunning on opening day, but continue to age gracefully as Chula’s becomes a gathering place for the community. Every finish you see in our main dining room reflects collaboration, care, and a shared commitment to creating a space that feels like home.
